Pest Control Around Kogarah Council

The City of Kogarah, situated in the St George region of southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, was a significant local government area with its center located 14 kilometers (8.7 mi) southwest of the Sydney central business district and west of Botany Bay.

Established on 22 December 1885 as the “Municipal District of Kogarah,” it gained city status in 2008, becoming the first local government area in New South Wales to achieve this through popular vote. The city’s boundaries were delineated by the Illawarra railway line, Georges River, Rocky Point Road, Princes Highway, and Harrow Road. The name “Kogarah” is of Aboriginal origin, meaning “place of reeds,” reflecting the reeds that once grew in the inlets along the Georges River and at the head of Kogarah Bay.

Throughout its history, the Municipality of Kogarah underwent several changes and expansions, notably incorporating parts of the Municipality of Rockdale in 1916 and 1969. Additionally, in December 1920, Kogarah joined forces with the councils of Rockdale, Hurstville, and Bexley to establish the St George County Council, aimed at providing electricity to the respective areas.

However, on 12 May 2016, the NSW Government announced the merger of Kogarah and Hurstville councils, leading to the formation of Georges River Council. This marked a significant restructuring of local governance in the region, reshaping the landscape of administrative divisions.
